Benito Thompson, age

School - First Winner
Holiday Happiness for 13 Year Old Budding Violinist

Benito Thompson, age 13 of Crews Middle School in Gwinnett, is the first
recipient of the Deserving Young Artist Award. Ronald Sachs Violins and
CraneClassical Music Society has awarded Benito a professional quality violin to
use, in recognition of his promise as a fine young musician, as the first of 5 fine
string instruments that will be awarded annually to deserving young string
players.  Serious young string players who have not reached their 18th birthday
may be nominated by their private instructor or orchestra director, and
nominations should be placed at www.craneclassical.com.  Benito received this
violin at the December 15th Crews Middle School Holiday performance. Benito
first became exposed to orchestral music at age three, when living with his family
in Jamaca and watching featured broadcasts each Sunday evening on television.
He would pantomime playing the violin and requested an instrument and finally
began at age 6. He had limited lessons for a year and then continued on his own.
Upon relocating to Snellville, Benito joined his middle school orchestra and
worked his way up to first chair. Benito Thompson is a budding young violinist
who will be a pleasure to watch develop. We are proud of his dedication,
accomplishment and his motivation to share his love for music and joy with his
community.
His awarded instrument will facilitate steady progress and artistry.
